Kybella is the only FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment for contouring and improving the appearance of fat under the chin (double chin). This “submental fat” is commonly known as double chin, and Kybella can dramatically improve the neck profile in selected individuals. This treatment can be combined with Thermage for further skin tightening underneath the neck.
The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Once this ingredient is injected underneath neck skin, it helps to destroy the original cells and then the body absorbs the released fat. After the initial fat is absorbed, those original fat cells are no longer available to accumulate fat in the future.
Treatment with Kybella typically requires two to four in-office procedures, spaced eight weeks apart, to achieve the maximum improvement. Treatment is individualized to the size of the fat pad to be dissolved.
